"Doing What the Father Says," prayer retreat attendees.
Participants who attended the, "Doing What God Says," prayer retreat enjoyed a unique experience. As the fall weather turned cooler, it was a wonderful time to enjoy the coziness of Gove Hill Retreat, and also turn attention inward. Exploration of one's spiritual life and connection to God are a natural part of retreat, and participants were not disappointed during this inspiring two-day get away.
The workshop allowed for participants to explore and practice, in three sessions, how Jesus heard and responded to the Father's leading to do ministry and how we can do the same. Our thanks to the Rev. Robb Dix and his wife, Bonnie, who led the two-day retreat.

The Huntington Hims play as the crowd enjoys lunch
The Wixson Retreat dedication ceremony & BBQ held August 18th was an awesome event. We were so pleased that the late Rev. Wixson's wife and family could be in attendance as we celebrated the life and ministry of this great man. Festivities began at 11:00 a.m. with music by the Huntington Hims at the gazebo. A delicious lunch was provided along with ice cold drinks. Rev. Dale Edwards, Regional Minister, presented Mrs. Wixson with a portrait and plaque honoring her husband, both of which hang in the Wixson Retreat. More music was provided by Joel Glenn Wixson and finally a tour of the newly renovated space was given. Please check out our Facebook page for more photos. Thank you to all who attended and made the event so special.

Christian Writer's Retreat, 2012
Our annual Christian Writers Retreat, held July 13-15, 2012, brought together writers from various backgrounds and with a variety of skill and interests. Discussion on faith, writing, reading, music and more were part of this interactive, creative long-weekend.
Presenters included Robert Siegel, reknowned poet, professor and wordsmith, and Jeffrey Overstreet, well-known film critic, author, writer and speaker. Matthew Dickerson, professor at Middlebury College and author acted as coordinator of the event and also discussed music and story and tips for self-critique. One-on-one and group sessions allowed writers to learn in a hands on manner. Free writing time and the beautiful natural surroundings allowed attendees to explore both on and off the page during the retreat. Thanks to all our presenters and participants for making the event such a success.

Hard at work, scrubbing kitchen walls!
Thank you to all our hardworking volunteers who made our Spring Work Day such a success! We had one of our largest groups ever attend and were able to accomplish much in just a few hours.
Work Days are always a fun time at GHR: we catch up with old friends and meet new ones, share in the work, and of course, enjoy some of the delicious, homemade food GHR is known for.

Putting the finishing touches on quilt pieces
The Quilting Weekend at GHR continues to be a popular annual event. Hosted by Sharon Petersen, owner of Barnyard Quilting, the weekend offers quilters a chance to complete an existing project or begin a new one, under Sharon's helpful tutelage. 20-minute massages on premises allowed quilters to get kinks and knots worked out while taking a break from sewing. This event was sold out this year and proves to be a large draw for quilters in the area.

Soul Care 2011
God set the stage for resting in Him with a gorgeous Gove Hill sunrise for the recent Soul Care Retreat that the ABC/VNH Ministers' Council sponsored at the region's retreat center in Thetford, VT. Clergy and clergy spouses were led by Dr. Steve Macchia and Matthew Scott and learned the four rhythms of resting on Sabbath.
Attendees rediscovered the beauty of silence and solitude as they prayed with the scriptures. Participants honed their listening skills and were reminded that leaders cannot lead without listening - to God, to the people of God, to the needs of a crying, hurting world.

Putting on the spiritual Armor.
Attendees of “OPERATION EQUIP: Training for Spiritual Victory,” a spiritual warfare workshop held in September at Gove Hill Retreat, had a hands on and truly memorable experience.
The workshop, presented by Sandi Michon who served for 28 years in the Air Force Reserves, included the use of full face gas masks and chemical warfare suits, lots of biblical discussion and new and different looks at the parallels between military training and spiritual warfare. Sandi, a lifelong student of the Scriptures, placed particular emphasis on Ephesians 6:10-20.
One workshop participant noted, “I liked the connection of spiritual warfare to physical warfare. I learned a lot through the explosives recognition exercise. It was a super faith builder,” while another remarked, “There were so many good insights and analogies and fresh ways of looking at familiar topics. I appreciated the refreshment and nourishment the retreat brought me.”
